Our Founders

John Sr. and Stacey Durkin, along with their sons, continue to play an active part in the day-to-day operations of Onyx. Currently, we employ 100+ team members, many of whom have been with the company for over 15 years. They’ve become family. This is reflected in the pride and dedication evident in their everyday work, and we couldn’t be prouder of where we’ve grown to after 40 years.

The ONYX Team

Our team is family. We know a lot of companies say that, but we mean it.

The men and women on our team have grown with us: they’ve built their careers and expertise here, started in entry-level positions, and climbed their way up. They’ve watched their family members do the work and followed in their footsteps. Even if they came in knowing little about the industry, they are glad to be here, and we’re proud to be a part of their transformation.

If you’re looking for a fulfilling career, a close-knit culture, and a place where you’ll retire, we’d love to hear from you. We’re hiring for a variety of roles- and if you see yourself in one, send us an application today.

Our Second Generation Leadership

After receiving his degree in Landscape Construction from Penn State University, John and Stacey’s oldest son, John Jr., rejoined Onyx full-time and brought his talents into branching out our high-end Landscape Construction services. John and Stacey’s younger son, Cale, also joined the company full-time, playing an important role in the excavation division.

Team Appreciation

Sometimes the best work is done off the job site. For ONYX, our team’s ability to work together and get the job done for our clients is because of the trust, understanding, and friendship they have built over the years. Sometimes that means celebrating outside of the office or a job and spending days to get to know each other and enjoy a job well done. We recently brought our whole team and their families to Kimball Farm to celebrate a year’s worth of growth and accomplishment.
